Bennington Vermont- It’s simply Beautiful
Leaves are changing….bright reds in the mountains and in the wetlands. I took a ride up through Southern Vermont orchards and the side of Mt Anthony is just beginning its patchwork quilt.
The trees are laden with beautiful red apples…my amateur photographer iphone image just can’t do it justice. The Apple Barn is offering their wonderful cider donuts and mulled apple cider along with an array of pies and pick your own berries.
The area is alive with places to purchase mums, bittersweet and of course pumpkins. You must check out Armstrong’s on Route 7A just south of Bennington….pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins as well as gourds, cornstalks and their famous Vermont Maple Syrup.
Even if you can’t spend the night here in Southern Vermont…it’s worth the day trip especially this time of year. But pack your toothbrush, you might be lucky…The Eddington House Inn offers a day of stay special (if we happen to have a last minute room vacancy) for $99 per night which includes a full breakfast.

Southern Vermont for Foodies
Late August/early September is a great time for foodies in Southern Vermont. You can enjoy picking apples at Terry’s Orchard in Bennington. Apples fresh from the tree bear no similarity to those at the supermarket. Picking tomatoes at the Moses Family Farm (yes, Grama Moses ) in nearby New York State….just 15 minutes from the Eddington House Inn is also a delight. Moses Farm is famous in our region for its sugar sweet corn on the cob. The Farm is in a great setting and the tomatoes (at an astoundingly budget friendly price if you pick yourselves) are just like candy; sweet and luscious. Top it off with some great fresh baked bread from the Crazy Russian Girl’s Bakery in downtown Bennington and some Vermont Cheddar from Henry’s Market on Route 9 in Bennington or fresh locally made Mozzarella from Maplebrook Farm just minutes from our bed and breakfast. What a divine treat for the foodie in you!

Thank you to all who expressed concern for us here in Southern Vermont.
Though our area suffered damage from this devastating storm - Bennington area shops, restaurants, lodging facilities and attractions are open for business.
The Eddington House Inn did not suffer any damage from Irene. We are very thankful and operating as usual. The Bennington Area is easily accessible from Albany New York and it is smooth sailing to Manchester VT and Williamstown MA. Coming from NY or Boston? You shouldn’t have any trouble.
The sun is shining and we are hosting our very popular GARLIC FEST this weekend. www.lovegarlic.com
Bennington College students are back on campus. The area is gearing up for our annual car show and fall foliage. Hope to see you soon.
