If you and your student are touring New England campuses and your schedule includes a visit to Bennington College, Southern Vermont College, Williams or Skidmore, consider an overnight at the Eddington House Inn.  We offer a special midweek college visit rate of $109 per night per room based on single or double occupancy.    In addition, one of our rooms, Suzie’s room (queen bed) has an adjacent room with a twin bed and the two rooms  can accommodate a total of 3 people for $149 per night.  Rates include a full breakfast and afternoon refreshments.

The Eddington House Inn is an easy walk to Bennington College, about 10 minutes to SVC, 30 minutes to Williams and 60 minutes to Skidmore in nearby NY state.

Maple Sugar in Vermont

Saphouses will be open to the public offering tours, activities, and free samples of syrup. The sugarmakers are found in ten towns throughout the county so there’s bound to be one or two close to your place.

So put on your boots and spend the day enjoying Vermont during this unique season. Visit one or all of the participating sugarhouses as they partake in the springtime ritual of transforming sap into maple syrup. Start the weekend off at the Bennington Catamount Rotary club’s annual Pancake Breakfast fundraiser.    

 Just a few miles from the Eddington House Inn you will find several sugar houses where you can view the process, take a taste of Vermont’s special syrup and purchase some REAL Vermont syrup to take home.

Blues Sanctuary – a local favorite, returns to Vermont Arts Exchange for another sold out performance on Saturday March 9, 2013.  The dance floor was packed with a fun filled crowd here in North Bennington.  Thyme Tables provided dinner & libations.

Coming up…Joy Kills Sorrow

Enjoy a photographic exhibit of gravestones by Daniel Farber (1906-1998) in a special exhibit entitled Memento Mori: The Art and Commerce of Gravestones of Bennington. In addition this exhibit will feature original gravestones, including the markers created to memorialize Bennington’s first minister, Rev. Jedidiah Dewey. Some of these early headstones are on loan from the Shaftsbury Historical Society.

The Bennington Museum is just 10 minutes from the Eddington House Inn. There is a lovely scenic drive from the inn over Vermont Covered Bridges to the Village of Old Bennington, the Bennington Battle Monument and then on to Bennington Museum.

This is also a wonderful time of year to enjoy a walking tour of Old Bennington and a walk through the cemetery to visit additional old gravestones and markers as well as the grave of Vermont poet,Robert Frost.

Brush up on your fly-fishing skills before the season opens with a variety of activities for anglers of all ages on Saturday March 31 from 1-4pm in Manchester Vermont.  All activities are included in the regular admission cost of the museum.

Singer/songwriter Peter Mulvey has just released a new CD- his 15th- entitled “The Good Stuff” and will be performing live on  the basement stage at North Bennington’s Vermont Arts Exchange on Saturday March 31 at 8pm.  Opening for Mulvey on Saturday is singer/songwriter Chris Pureka from Northhampton, MA.

Over the past 20 years, Mulvey has pursued a restless, eclectic path as a writer and musician – immersing himself in Tin PanAlley jazz, modern acoustic, poetry, narrative, and Americana stylings. Relentlessly touring as a headliner – his attitude is, “When you love what you do, you can work all the time.” He has also shared the stage with luminaries such as Emmylou Harris, Richard Thompson, Ani diFranco, Indigo Girls, and Greg Brown, and has attracted an audience that stretches from Anchorage to Amsterdam.

VAE , short walk from the Eddington House Inn , hosts a variety of live performances throughout the year as part of their Basement Music Series.  If you can’t make it this weekend- try again…you won’t be disappointed, its always a great show in a fun setting.

The Better Bennington Corporation’s ”One Hundred for $100″ Juried Art Exhibit and Sale takes place on Saturday March 24 from 4-8pm at 210 South Street in downtown Bennington Vermont.  This event begins with a Champagne Preview at 4pm when propective buyers can speak with the artists, sip champagne, listen to live jazz by “Blueprint, view the art pieces in advance of the 6pm sale and sample complimentary hors d’oevres.  There will be one hundred works of art by local professional artists priced at $100 each, as well as another one hundred works of art not restricted to the $100 price tag.  

This years artists include North Bennington neighbors, Stella Ehrich, Judy Kniffin and Fred Brownstein.   Tickets to the preview are $15 each  but after 6pm when the sale begins there will be no charge for admittance. A cash bar will be available throughout the evening.

This is your opportunity to visit local Vermont sugarhouses , learn about the maple syrup process and even taste the real thing – Vermont Maple Syrup. With little rain or snow this year – this annual “Mud Season” event will be enjoyed with a little less mud (but you might want to pack some boots just in case).

Bennington County Sugarmakers will be hosting their annual Maple Sunday Weekend on March 24-25, 2012. Spend the day enjoying Vermont and visit one or all of the participating sugarhouses as they transform sap into maple syrup. In downtown Bennington, the popular Big Brothers Big Sisters fundraiser – Keg’s & Eggs will be held this year at Doug’s at 455 Main Street on Friday March 16 from 7:30 to 10:am. Every year near St Patrick’s Day this popular event features a breakfast buffet along with prizes, raffles and the exciting Bartender’s Challenge.

The Bartender’s Challenge pits area bartenders against one another to determined who has raised the most money for youth mentoring. Deb Giroux, who tends bar at our neighborhood sportspub Kevin’s has been the perennial winner, raising many thousands of dollars each year for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

For a $5 entry fee, which goes to Big Brothers Big Sisters, the event features breakfast, bartender’s challenge , a stein hoisting competition- a wee bit o’green and Irish whiskey tasting.

Join in the fun this Friday evening March 9 for another Full Moon Party at Lake Paran  just behind the Eddington House Inn in North Bennington Vermont.  Party is from 6-9pm and $3 admission includes hot chocolate, hot dogs, music, a bon-fire and fireworks in addition to the beautiful full moon in Vermont’s star lit skies.
