Holidays in Vermont

Posted on: December 10th, 2013 by Patti Eddington

Winter at the Eddington House

Snow is in the forecast for today and again later in the week.  We are expecting a Vermont White Christmas.  Our tree is up and decorated, fence lights line the walk and driveways and evergreen can be smelled throughout the inn with the addition of balsam branches in each room.

Prospect Mountain is preparing for a great  season of cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the Green Mountains. The mountain has received enough snow for our local high school ski team to begin its season practices.

The Bennington Museum features its annual Festival of Trees – a wonderful month long event enjoyed each year by children and adults alike.

Hildene, the Lincoln family home, offer tours of the home decorate for the holidays in nearby Manchester – only 25 minutes from the inn. Hildene also has a wonderful gift shop and many special events this winter.

Taylor Farm, Lively’s Livery and Karl Pfister are all gearing up for Vermont sleigh rides.

Sue, our neighboring massage therapist, will make house calls here at the inn to help reduce the tensions of this busy season.

Area shops are filled with goodies for Christmas & beyond and local restaurants are beautifully decorated to bring festivity to the season.

Happy Holidays to all from the Eddington House Inn.

Hope to see you soon.

Still great skiing in Southern Vermont

Posted on: February 19th, 2011 by Patti Eddington

Snow, snow and more snow.  Skiing has been great this year in southern Vermont.  Prospect Mountain is only 15-20 minutes from the inn and boasts the highest base elevation of any alpine or cross-country ski area in the state. The high elevation is an important factor in providing consistently good ski conditions at Prospect. Prospect offers groomed trails, a great base lodge with a large fireplace, wonderful views and rents cross country skiis and snowshoes.

Though North Bennington reaches 60 yesterday….there is plenty of snow.  Even when there is NO snow in Bennington there is lots of snow on Prospect Mountain.  We assume the skiing will continue well into the Spring in 2011.

Prospect also has special events…tonight is a Full Moon and they offer a moonlight dinner and ski. Should be beautiful.
